Happy Texas Independence Day

In honor of this glorious holiday, yep it's a holiday, I decided to bake some cookies for everyone at work.  To say they were a hit would be an understatement.  I sent this email out to everyone when I got to work Friday morning:

"Hello All,
There are some homemade Texas sugar cookies on the island next to my desk, so come help yourself and celebrate this wonderful holiday!!!

For those of you who are not native Texans, here is a little history on today:
-Texas Independence Day is the celebration of the adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence on March 2, 1836.  Inspired by the 1776 declaration, the Texas document claimed Mexico had "ceased to protect the lives, liberty, and property of the people" and committed "arbitrary acts of oppression and tyranny."  With this document, settlers in Mexican Texas officially broke from Mexico, creating the Republic of Texas.
-Texas Independence Day is an official holiday in the state of Texas.

Happy Texas Independence Day!!!
-Lauren"

The best part about celebrating at work was that I never realized how diverse our department is.  We actually only have about four Texans out of 16.  We have representatives from Ohio, Pakistan, Mississippi, Florida, and many more.
Deep in the Heart of Texas!!!
