Treasure Cookies

Chocolate Chip Treasure Cookies from Enjoying the Journey
When Dominique asked me if I would join her in her 12 Days of Christmas series I knew I could not miss out on it!  The first cookies that came to mind where my mom's Chocolate Chip Treasure Cookies.  They have been a favorite of mine and are always a crowd pleaser.
So the first thing I did was I got out my hand made cookbook my mom made me in college with all hand written recipes.  I quickly found the page and made my list of things to get, which was short because I am my mother's daughter and not only do I keep a well stocked pantry but I keep lots of baking supplies on hand!

Then the baking happened.  I got out my granny's old Oster mixer that she bought on January 2, 1984 to help me whip the cookies up.  And I know that date exactly because she wrote it in the front of the manual!!!  After the mixer was out, my apron (I mean my apron that was granny's that she made herself) was put on and I was ready.

Chocolate Chip Treasure Cookies

1 1/2 cups Graham Cracker crumbs
1/2 cup flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 (14 oz.) can Eagle Brand milk
1/2 cup margarine
1 (3 1/2 oz.) can flaked coconut(1 1/3 cups)
1 (12 oz.) package semi-sweet chocolate chips (2 cups)
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  In small bowl mix graham cracker crumbs, flour, and baking powder.  In large bowl, beat milk and margarine until smooth.  Add graham cracker crumb mixture; mix well.  Stir in coconut, chocolate chips and nuts.  Drop rounded tablespoons onto cookies sheets.  Bake 9-10 minutes or until lightly browned.  Store loosely covered at room temperature.
If moist cookies are your thing then you will love these!  They stay fresh for days and a testament to that was when I was in college my mom would send them to me in the mail and even after I got them they would still be great for a week(not that they ever lasted that long).

Now go check out these lovely ladies and see what cookies they baked up too:
If you are looking for a new holiday treat then these are for you!  I love them because they are not too sweet and super simple to whip up!  As always I love baking, but the best part about baking these cookies was that the magic happened on my brand new counter tops with my beautiful subway tile back splash as the back ground!  Hope you enjoy these as much as I do and the guys at the office will in the morning too!
